There are a few of these soda lakes in the Rift Valley. The pink smear on the lake is a giant flock of flamingoes. They fly between from one lake to another eating the algae, insects, crustaceans etc that grow in the water.
In the background you can see one or two plumes from fumaroles; the Rift Valley is very geologically active.
